SHENZHEN , China, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Team Red of the Chinese men's basketball national team lost to Germany 73-76 here on Friday at the Stankovic Continental Cup 2017, failing to make into Sunday's final. With 17 seconds to the end of the match, Mend Duo missed the free-throw to tie the score. The host team had no choice but to send their opponent to the free-throw line. Ismet Akpinar made in both and helped Germnay leading at 75-72. Zhao Jiwei then caused the German a foul but the Chinese guard missed the second. Johannes, who led Germnay with 17 points , then also missed his second free-throw attempt, which gave the Chinese team a chance to force a timeout. But Fang Shuo's three-pointer attempt just went wild. China, who trailed by 10 after the first quarter, outscored Germany 16-10 in the second period and 24-16 in the third, to headed into the final quarter with a lead of four. But Akpinar scored nine of his team-high 17 in that quarter , leading the German team to the victory and also a ticket to the final. Wang Zhelin led China with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Meng Duo added 17, which all came in the second half. Germany will play against Croatia on Sunday, who beat Egypt 92-64 earlier today. The two teams had a clash on Thursday, in which the Croatian won at 83-77. China will only play against the winless Egypt for the third place of the tournament. This lack of quality was highlighted by a jaw-dropping incident which featured Shenzhen Ruby players' publicly appealing for help to resolve their salary issues. Ruby players posted banners ahead of the kickoff of their Chinese FA Cup game against -top-tier league giants Shandong Luneng, imploring the government and China's soccer ruling body, the Chinese Football -Association (CFA), to intervene. After Frenchman Philippe Troussier resigned as Ruby's head coach last year, the club put Li Yi , former China international and assistant coach to Troussier, in charge. Forming a players' association would be an excellent -option since China doesn't yet have one. In 2011 , two players' associations delivered lockouts in -different sports worldwide. In soccer, footballers in Spain went on strike for weeks ahead of the 2011-12 season to protect their members from the mismanagement of clubs who owed their players wages. In US basketball, the NBA suffered their fourth lockout in history. Fans waited for five months until the National Basketball Players Association reached an agreement with the owners over salaries. World soccer players' union FIFPro (International Federation of Professional Footballers) would be happy to see a new member from the most populous country rather than having observer status, but what really matters is that Chinese players can be represented by people in the best situation to actually help them. A good portion of the enjoyment of a pleasant date is in the anticipation. We have a date for Friday night and we think about it throughout the week. We think about what we will wear, where we'll go , what we'll eat, what we'll say and do. We plan on how long it will take to get ready and whether we'll need to leave work a few minutes early. When we enter a relationship, we stop dating. We see each other, of course, much more than we did in our dating days. At the onset of living together , we still have that sense of anticipation before seeing that beloved face. We hurry home to the most important person in our little world. After years together, we become used to the routine. We may enjoy seeing our significant other as much as ever but the exhilarating anticipation has become normalized. We have become habituated to the lives together we have created. We need to start dating again. We need to create special events that we can look forward to with keen relish. Thinks about when you last took a vacation or a pleasure trip. The days and weeks leading up to it were times of mounting excitement and planning; we saw it in our mind's eye long before it took place. After it was over, we enjoyed remembering the things we had seen and done, secretly smiling at the fun we'd had and the free feelings we had experienced. The same spirit-boosting results can be obtained, to a lesser degree but with more frequency , in planning small events with our partner. A lunch or dinner date at a special place can be something we look forward to for a long happy week. A date to go bowling, or . |
